Madame Knebel, the Russian director

The 1968 Dublin Theatre Festival production of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard has stood out for many as a defining moment in the Abbey’s history. Actors involved in the production hold fond memories of Madame Maria Knebel of the Mosow Art Theatre who directed the production at the Abbey Theatre and the inspiration she brought to the company.
